Now that the warm(ish) weather is (sort of) upon us, my thoughts turn…

…to training. While I’ve been a long time Peloton rider and a weekend hiker, I know that I need to have a systematic approach that includes hiking hills and hiking with gradually increasing backpack weight.

I found a great 12 week training plan on the CaminoAdventures blog, and adapted it to include both Peloton rides and strength classes. Core strength will be hugely important in preventing knee and ankle injuries because a stable core means that your knees and lower legs track correctly when on steep descents. Core strength also helps distribute the weight of your pack correctly. Even a 13 pound pack can feel like a ton when one is hiking for hours!
