Day 36 & 37: Molinaseca to Camponaraya and Camponaraya to Trabadelo

Yesterday, Sunday was only about 11 miles, so I enjoyed getting a late start out of the lovely town of Molinaseca. One highlight of the day was going through the city of Ponferrada where the Knights Templar’s historic presence is felt and seen throughout.

Today was extremely hot, and it got up to 99 this afternoon. It was also my longest hike since my injury, 15 miles. There were quite a few ascents and descents as I approach the Galician mountains. The original plan was to stop in Cacabelos for lunch about 4 miles in. But many little towns’ establishments are closed on Mondays, so I trudged on to Villafranca, which was another 4 miles in, for a long lunch break.

I arrived in Trabadelo after 6 tonight, and there’s even a little swimming pool here! A freezing cold one, so I just dipped my feet in.

On the way to Camponaraya
It always amazes me how there are just castles coexisting casually with the other buildings in these cities. This one was in Ponferrada.
Seen in albergue where I slept and had dinner last night. Um, what??
A beautiful little church in Cacabelos
A hillside vineyard approaching Villafranca de Los Bierzos
