Well…it’s official!

My plane ticket is booked, and I’m doing it again. Armed with a little bit of knowledge and (hopefully) wisdom from my 2024 adventure, I am setting off in mid-June 2026!

What will I do differently this this time?

  1. I will pack a little lighter to begin with. My pack was pretty light by Camino standards (15ish pounds), but I ended up mailing a few things home last time.
  2. I will stay in more communal accommodations. Private rooms are lovely and comfy (no snorers!), but can be lonely at times. So, I will try to stay in places that have 4-8 bunks in a room and that have communal meals. Meals on the Camino with newfound friends from around the world are a wonderful experience!
  3. I will start my day earlier. The heat of the day is from 2-6 P.M. (thus, siesta culture), so my goal is to be done walking each day by about 2:00.
  4. I will moderate my mileage a little bit. No more 18 mile days! I’ll average 13-14 miles per day, with maybe two 16-17 mile days in there. Of course this means I’ll be getting back a little later. I’m aiming for mid-August.
  5. I will walk past the official ending at Santiago de Compostela, and do what is considered to be the postscript ….the walk to the coastal towns of Muxia and Finesterre (whose name literally means “end of the earth”. I didn’t get to do this last time due to needing to spend a week recovering from tendonitis.
