After a year of planning, the day is finally here. I’m equal parts excited and nervous. O’Hare Airport, even in the middle of a Thursday afternoon is a hub of activity! I have three hours until my flight leaves, so it’s time to read a little, people watch a lot, and remind myself to savor…
I’ve pared my gear down to what I consider the essentials. The total weight (not including what I will wear and my hiking poles) is 15.17 pounds. This includes clothing, electronics, toiletries, first aid, sleeping bag liner and inflatable pillow, water bottle, muscle roller, hat, rain poncho, lightweight towel, passport, sunglasses, reading glasses, and guidebooks/maps.
