Day 16: Rest day in Burgos

Burgos is a vibrant city of about 200,000. And, the Festival de San Pedro y San Pablo is going on this week, so the city has distinctly celebratory vibe right now. There’s live music in the square, and fireworks each night.

Since it is Monday, all the museums were closed today. It was a little disappointing, but maybe it’s the universe reminding me that I need to actually rest on a rest day. I did wander around town a little bit, and the highlight of my day was a self guided tour of La Catedral de Santa Maria de Burgos. It is stunning in its size and ornateness, and is one of the oldest and finest Gothic cathedrals in all of Europe. The cornerstone dates back to the early 1200s.

Tomorrow, back on the path!

Last night’s view from my window. Across the river is seen the cathedral behind the gate to the old city.
In the square of the cathedral. Even, Julianna, Michelle, and me.
Burgos is an absolutely lovely city.
The best Gazpacho I’ve ever had. Served with a little dish of toppings: jamón (cured Spanish ham), pickles and onions.
The rest of dinner: a delicious hamburger with a thick slice of goat cheese, arugula, tomato and honey mustard.

The rest of the pics below are from the visit to the cathedral today.

Burgos IS beautiful, but so much of this trail is truly breathtaking!

I’m glad to hear you had a day for a bit more rest, AND that you got the right shoes!.

I loved that rolling hills area, Cirueña to Belorado. But was that super hot?

Keep it up! Hope blisters are ok. Loving the blog posts and glorious photos!

    1. There were some hot days last week, but the past few days it’s been really nice. Cool in the mornings, and getting to only the 70s.
