Day 10 and 11: Los Arcos to Viana, and a rest day in Viana

Yesterday was about a 12 mile day from Los Arcos to Viana. There were a couple of steep inclines, but nothing too bad and it was actually very pleasant walk. I do feel like I am gaining endurance, as the hills no longer completely wiped me out. The weather has turned cooler (but will heat up at the beginning of next week).

I had a lovely relaxing rest day in Viana today. this is one of my very favorite towns on the Camino. It’s a beautiful little hilltop village of about 4000 people. There is a beautiful Iglesia here, Iglesia Santa Maria de Asunción, as well as the ruins of a church from medieval times, the church of San Pedro. The church is gorgeous, and although it’s not a cathedral, it certainly rivals one in size and grandeur.

Camino friends were also here in Viana last night, and we had a delicious dinner. They’ve moved on to Longroño, which I’ll be walking through tomorrow morning.

Iglesia de Santo Sepulcro, a 12th century octagonal church in Torres del Rio. It has been associated with the Knights Templar.
A green plastic chair sitting in the middle of nowhere along the trail. Surely it was a sign from the universe that I needed to take a break.
Pilgrims from Wisconsin, Florida, Scotland, the Czech Republic, and Germany. We started as a dinner for four people and three others joined us.

My favorite place to stay on the Camino so far. A very beautiful old building and a wonderfully welcoming vibe.

The view from my balcony. I love these narrow European streets, so very charming!
The ruins of the Iglesia San Pedro built in the 12th century.
Beautiful carvings at the entrance to the Iglesia.
