To say the last three days have been frustrating is a huge understatement. It’s Friday, and I’ve not been on the Camino since Tuesday. The plan was to be better by today, and back on the trail tomorrow. That didn’t happen.
When it became clear that the leg was not improving, despite massive amounts of rest, elevation and anti inflammatory medication, I knew I needed to get reevaluated. Fortunately, there’s an urgent care literally across the street from my hotel.
So, I went there today, and they examined me and did an xray to rule out a stress fracture. Thankfully it wasn’t that, since that would’ve ended my Camino. It is, however, anterior tibialis tendinitis. An inflammation of the tendon at the front of the ankle where it connects to the leg. They wrapped it up, and treatment is more of the same: Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. I have a follow up appointment on Monday to see if I’m allowed to start walking again on Tuesday.
I managed to hobble around a bit over the last couple of days to see the Cathedral and attached museum. It’s only 300 feet from my hotel, so I don’t feel too guilty. In the meantime, it’s a few more days of cafes and feeling lazy.
