Day 4: Zubiri to Pamplona

Today was my longest day so far (just over 15 miles) and I’m headed for an early bedtime. While my knees are holding up, thanks to the Euflexxa shots, and I feel strong with regard to cardiovascular fitness, my feet ache so much at the end of each day, and I’m struggling with the fatigue that comes from being in the hot sun all day. I have the worst farmer tan you’ve ever seen!

15+ miles today, and I’m headed to bed in Pamplona. The highlight of my day was stumbling upon a little outdoor cafe in Zuriain, after the previous two villages had nothing open in terms of food. I was happy to run into Camino friends Gloria, Gina, Even, and Tina. The tortilla patata (like a quiche, with potatoes and peppers) here was muy bueno, and the ice cold coke hit the spot after drinking water all day. It was a great mid day break, even if I did linger a bit too long. I’m determined to try to recreate tortilla patata when I get home!

Back at it tomorrow!

These villages have the most charming, beautiful houses!
A 12th century abbey that was surely a haven for peregrinos 800 years ago! I couldn’t go inside because it’s being restored, but so beautiful from the outside.
OK….so Bears can poop in the woods, but we can’t? Thankfully I’ve not had to resort to that. 🤣
Waterfall on the Rio Erros. The trail followed this river all day.
Lunch at Zuriain
Gina, Gloria, and me!
Poppies in the middle of a wheat field. Do I need to look for flying monkeys?
A drawbridge into to old part of Pamplona.
This part of town is party central. A bar every few feet (am I in Wisconsin?), loud music, people enjoying the city.

Loving the pix! It’s really charming. And the countryside looks equally beautiful!
